For most travelers, the period from December to April is the most attractive time to visit Cancun. The weather is usually drier, humidity lower and temperatures pleasant. But “best time” depends on what you prioritize. Do you want lower prices, as little sargassum as possible, fewer people or the best possible weather? Those are not necessarily the same month.

January
January is one of our favorite months for Cancun. You get winter warmth without the extreme humidity of summer. At the same time this is high season, so hotel prices can be high. Suitable for: couples, families and winter holidays.
February
Still very good climate. Early February can be especially attractive before the biggest Spring Break periods. Suitable for: almost everyone.
March
Weather-wise fantastic. But this is also one of the main Spring Break months. How much you notice it depends strongly on the hotel and where in Cancun you stay. Suitable for: sun, heat and those not bothered by more liveliness.
April
Still very good weather. Easter can drive high demand, and parts of the Spring Break season can still affect the area. Temperatures gradually become higher.
May
Warmer and more humid. Can be interesting if hotel prices are lower, but sargassum can become a bigger factor.
June–August
Very hot and humid. Summer vacations certainly work, but you must like tropical heat. It is also hurricane season.
September–October
This is the period we would consider most carefully. Not because the weather necessarily becomes bad, but because the risk of tropical storms is greater. If you travel now: book flexibly.
November
November can be one of the most interesting months. Toward the end of the month you approach the dry winter season, while prices some weeks can be better than at Christmas and January.
Our favorite period
If we could choose completely freely and were to take a family holiday: late January to the first half of February. Then you often get:
- pleasant weather
- warm sea
- before the main part of Spring Break
- less sargassum than later in spring/summer
But hotel prices can be high. What if price is more important than perfect weather? Then we would look at:
- May
- June
- November
but compare the price difference against the weather and sargassum risk. It makes little sense to save 10% on the hotel if the destination at the same time fits significantly worse for what you want.
Families with children
For families with young children we find winter and early spring particularly attractive because the heat is normally more manageable. When the temperature and humidity become high in summer, sightseeing in the middle of the day can become demanding.

Look at four factors at the same time:

crowds
The best Cancun month is the month where these four best match precisely for your holiday.
